Living According to Your Strategy: What is a Strategy?
Strategy is one of Human Design’s most important techniques, and it guides an individual’s behavior and relations with others. In simpler terms, it is a plan of action, a tactic for responding to external circumstances that helps individuals live harmoniously as themselves. Strategies are divided in accordance with personality type: Manifestors are initiators, or starters, who make decisions independent of everyone and everything. They cannot be managed or controlled. The Manifestor’s strategy is to inform others of their actions. Why? To lower resistance to their actions on the part of others and to exert the right influence. Otherwise, others can feel pressured, respond with negativity, and resist. Unlike Manifestors, Generators can’t start things just like that. Their strategy is to respond. They wait for an internal response before engaging. When they ignore their response, they get involved in too much at one time, and it inevitably leads to frustration. Projectors have a good understanding of others, they know what others need, and they can direct other people’s energy, but they don’t have much energy of their own. Therefore, their strategy is to wait for an invitation. Only after receiving recognition and an invitation can they work harmoniously. The alternative is vain initiative, which soon leaves them unrecognized and bitter. Reflectors have the most interesting strategy – to wait out a full cycle of the Moon, 28 days, before making any important decision. Unlike the other types, Reflectors are a lunar and not a solar type. Wisdom is revealed to them when they live out the lunar cycle. It’s not a good idea to rush these individuals: Nothing good ever comes of it. By being aware of their strategy and accepting it, each type can learn how to connect with themselves and with others in a harmonious way, to make the necessary decisions, and to build pleasant relationships without leaving any room for the False Self.
